Shelter
Overview
The Shelter Team is focusing on promoting sustainable playa building practices within the constraints of camps' offerings and styles.
Vision: Our Dreams for BRC 2030
BLAST Ideal: Camps maximize the use of space and minimize the use of resources to create safe, comfortable, multi-purpose shelter solutions that meet emerging default world needs.
Mission: How We'll Get There
BLAST Focus: Eefficient structure designs that require fewer resources to transport, store, build, heat, and cool.
What We're Working On
BLAST Baseline Level: Does your camp track the number and sizes of different types of shelters built on playa?
Brain storming on tough subjects. For example:
An RV may be wasteful when it houses one person, whereas, an RV shared by 6 people, is quite an efficient way to house 6 participants comfortably.
Encouraging theme camps to move away from high energy usage travel trailers and recreational vehicles by providing tents that are well shaded from the sun.
Building sustainable, reusable housing that can be used to transport equipment and supplies and can also be used off playa for the remainder of the year.
Minimizing environmental impact with the use of passive elements, lightweight materials, maximizing insulation and shade, while minimizing storage space for the building elements or increasing storage space within the building elements.
