Transport

Transporting your campmates and infrastructure to Black Rock City inevitably creates emissions, but there are plenty of ways to minimize them.

From carpooling and EVs to offsetting unavoidable emissions, every step helps lighten your environmental footprint.

People Transport

Track Camp Transportation

Collect vehicle details (type, MPG, number of passengers) and carpool potential via onboarding forms so you have a baseline to improve from.

Carpooling and Ridesharing

Share your camp's carpooling doc and discourage single-passenger vehicles. Use the resources below:

Burner Express Bus

Direct campmates traveling through San Francisco or Reno to take Burner Express Bus. Taking care of camp infra makes this option more feasible!

Gear Transport

Long Distance Hauling

If you’re coming from further away, check your regional community to see if there are community container programs to efficiently ship gear to playa, reducing need to purchase gear.

Store Gear in N. Nevada

Store camp gear nearby to reduce long-haul transport and thus cut down on emissions. Consider sharing storage to split costs w/ other camps.

Haul with EVs

If driving an EV to playa, plan for range loss and charging options. Bonus: use your EV as you camp's battery to bypass the cost of solar batteries.

Educate + Offset

Teach About Footprint

Provide tools for campmates to calculate their transportation emissions and suggestions for offsets.

Offset Emissions

Offset unavoidable carbon emissions from travel by calculating your camp’s overall footprint and including offsets in camp dues.
